April 27/28, 1943



    19 Halifaxes from 408 and 419 Squadrons were joined by 15 Wellingtons from 426, 427, and 429 Squadrons on a mining operation to the Frisian Islands, Texel, and Brest. The crews were over the gardens at between 500 and 2,000 feet, sowing 52@1500 lb mines.

    F/Sgt F. Leaver and Sgt D. Brooke from 408 Squadron returned early as their navigation aids were u/s.

    F/Sgt A. Bell, Sgt R. Harrison, P/O J. Dickson, F/O C. MacIntosh, F/O C. Vaillancourt, and F/Sgt J. Palmer from 419 Squadron returned early as they could not find the pinpoint due to poor weather.

    Sgt I. Runciman and S/Ldr F. Parker from 426 Squadron returned early as they could not find the pinpoint due to poor weather.
    P/O G. McMeneny landed at Topcliffe on return.

    Sgt W. Meaden from 427 squadron returned early as an engine was u/s. They landed safely at base on one engine.
    F/O L. Somers and Sgt L. Southwood returned early as they were unable to find the pinpoint due to poor weather.
