41 Halifaxes from 419, 427 and 428 Squadrons were ordered on an attack
at Nurnberg. The crews were over the target at between 17,000 and 21,000
feet, releasing 120,000 lbs of incendiaries and 40,000 lbs high explosives.
According to reports, there was some cloud, but serious damage was caused
central and southern sectors of the city.
F/Lt D. Corcoran from 419 Squadron had the port outer go u/s over the
target. They landed safely at West Malling on 3 engines.
F/O J. Westland was attacked by a JU-88, it was claimed destroyed.
W/O2 J. Morrison, F/Lt W. Keddie, F/Sgt D. Cook, F/Lt A. Quaile, F/O
W. Hamilton, F/Sgt T. Doubassoff, Sgt W. Cameron, F/O J. Westland, and
Sgt F. Allan landed at East Moor on return due to poor weather at base.
Sgt J. McIntosh landed at Linton on Ouse on return due to poor weather
at base.
F/Sgt R. Stewart landed at Topcliffe on return due to poor weather
at base.
Sgt R. Metheral landed at West Malling on return due to poor weather
at base.
F/O H. Dyer landed at Stanton Harcourt on return due to poor weather
at base.
F/Sgt S. Pekin landed at Church Lawford on return due to poor weather
at base.
F/Sgt R. Countess from 427 Squadron returned early as the port outer
was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
P/O W. Weston was hit by flak, not serious. They landed at Bradwell
Bay on return.
P/O A. Rodwell, Sgt E. Cornelius, Sgt D. Olsvik, F/Lt V. Ganderton
and F/Lt J. Morton landed at Bradwell Bay on return.
P/O R. Eaton from 428 Squadron was hit by flak, the port wing was damaged.
They landed at Westcott on return.
F/O K. Jones landed at East Moor on return due to a fuel shortage.
F/Sgt G. Newton landed at Tholthrope on return due to a fuel shortage.
P/O L. Williamson landed at Rufforth on return due to poor weather
at base.
