55 Halifaxes from 419, 427, 428, and 434 squadrons were joined by 8 Lancasters from 426 squadron on an attack at Leverkusen. The crews were over the target at between 17,000 and 21,000 feet, releasing 154,000 lbs of high explosives and 185,000 lbs of incendiaries. According to reports, the target was cloud covered and bombing was scattered.
Sgt K. White from 419 squadron returned early
as the stbd outer was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
F/Lt A. Hughes from 426 squadron was attacked
twice by a JU-88, there was no claim or damage.
Sgt H. Holland from 427 squadron returned early,
as the rear guns were u/s.
P/O R. Eaton from 428 squadron returned early
with a technical problem.
Sgt O. Lytle from 434 squadron returned early
as the port outer was u/s due to a glycol leak. They landed safely at base
on 3 engines.
