6 Halifaxes from 424 squadron were ordered out on a mining operation to La Rochelle. The crews were over the garden at 12,000 feet, sowing 24@1500 lb mines.

F/O D. Brown and crew flying Halifax III MZ-807 coded QB-M saw 8 JU-88's, the gunners opened fire on them damaging some of them.
All the crews returned safely to base.
