August 3, 1944

    210 Halifaxes from 408, 425, 420, 424, 425, 426, 427, 429, 431, 432, 433, and 434 squadrons were joined by 51 Lancasters from 408, 419 and 428 squadrons on an attack of two V-1 storage sites at Foret De Nieppe and Bois De Cassan. The crews were over these targets at between 14,000 and 16,000 feet, releasing 2,266,000 lbs. of high explosives. According to reports, the weather was clear and severe damage was caused. 

    W/O2 R. Harlow and W/O2 W. Cooke from 408 squadron were hit by flak, not serious. 

    Sgt J. Kerr from 415 squadron returned early as the hydraulics were u/s. 
    F/Lt J. Hovey returned early without bombing as they didn’t see any T. Is. 
    F/O C. Gue returned without bombing on the master bomber’s orders. 
    F/Lt H. Barnes landed at Tholthorpe on return. 

    P/O G. Holmes from 419 squadron was hit by flak, there were holes in the port wing and elevator. 

    P/O G. Pritchard from 420 squadron dropped 4x500 lb. bombs to gain height as one engine was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines. 
    F/O W. English returned without bombing as the load hung up. 

    F/O L. Murphy from 427 squadron was hit by falling bombs, one went through the stbd wing and one through the fuselage behind the mid-upper turret. They landed safely at base. 

    F/O A. Carter from 428 squadron had the port inner go u/s outbound, they bombed and returned safely to base on 3 engines. 
    W/Cdr W. McLeish was hit by flak, there were holes in both wings, port fuselage, and aileron. 

    P/O R. Diamond from 432 squadron returned early on the master bomber’s orders. 

    F/O D. McGrath from 433 squadron returned early as the stbd outer was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines. 
    P/O H. Solomos returned without bombing as they did not see any T. Is.
