    140 Halifaxes from 408, 415, 420, 424, 425, 426, 427, 429, 432, and 433 Squadrons were joined by 59 Lancasters from 419, 428, 431, and 434 Squadrons on an attack at Osnabruck. The crews were over the target at between 16,000 and 21,000 feet, releasing 1,310,000 lbs of high explosives and 193,000 lbs of incendiaries. According to reports, the attack was scattered but the railyards and a munitions factory were damaged.

    F/Lt H. Bracken from 408 Squadron bombed from 14,500 feet as the oxygen system was u/s.

    F/O S. McFadden and F/Lt J. McAllister from 415 Squadron returned early as they could not raise the under carriage.
    F/O E. Millbank returned early as they would have been too late over the target.
    F/Lt J. Northrup landed at Carnaby on return as the brakes were u/s.

    F/Lt D. Hunter from 419 Squadron returned early as there was severe icing and most instruments were u/s.
    F/Lt H. Collard almost collided with another Lancaster on the return trip over the North Sea.
    F/O G. Begg had the stbd outer catch fire on return. The stbd inner and port outer were also running poorly. They landed safely at Marston Moor on 3 engines.
    F/O B. Hyndman RCAF and crew, flying Lancaster X KB-779 coded VR-B, failed to return from this operation.

    F/O W. MacDonald from 420 Squadron returned early as they could not raise the under carriage.

    F/O C. Walker from 424 Squadron returned early due to severe icing.
    F/Lt D. Ross returned early as the port inner caught fire. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    F/O D. McCullough RCAF and crew, flying Halifax III NP-945 coded QB-D, failed to return from this operation.

    F/O C. Dionne from 425 Squadron was hit by flak, the port outer was u/s. They landed safely at Foulsham on 3 engines on return.
    F/O G. Perrier landed at Manston on return as the hydraulics were u/s.
    P/O W. Corbett landed at Foulsham on return.

    F/O C. Benton from 426 Squadron had the stbd inner u/s on return. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    F/O T. Layman and crew, flying Halifax VII NP-740 coded OW-P, were attacked by an ME-163. Many strikes were seen and it exploded in mid air. It was claimed destroyed.
    S/Ldr H. Stinson and crew flying, Halifax VII LW-209 coded OW-Y, were attacked twice by an ME-163, strikes were seen on both and each caught fire and exploded in mid air. Both were claimed destroyed.

    F/O J. Bell from 427 Squadron landed at Woodbridge on return as the hydraulics were u/s.
    F/Lt J. Murphy landed at New Market on return due to a fuel shortage.

    F/O E. Page from 428 Squadron returned early as the port outer was u/s. They landed safely on 3 engines.
    F/Lt G. Quinn had static electricity build up and blow a piece the windscreen and mid upper turret off. The aerial was also missing.

    F/O I. Benson from 429 Squadron returned early as the port inner was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    P/O G. Hay returned early as they were too late taking off.
    F/Lt P. Robb and crew, flying Halifax III MZ-474 coded AL-B, were attacked  by an unidentified single engine aircraft, there was no claim or damage.
    F/Lt A. Milner had the port inner u/s on return. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    F/O J. Prentice RCAF and crew, flying Halifax III MZ-463 coded AL-J, failed to return from this operation.

    F/Lt B. Adilman from 431 Squadron returned early as the rear gunners oxygen was u/s.
    S/Ldr H. Smith and crew, flying Lancaster X KB-808 coded SE-U, were attacked by a JU-88. Both gunners fired and the JU-88's port engine was on fire. It then dove through the clouds at a steep angle, claimed probably destroyed.

    F/O F. Jeffery from 432 Squadron was hit by flak, there were holes in the fuselage, tail plane and rear turret.
    F/Lt W. Miller landed at North Creake on return.
    F/O E. Patzer landed at Woodbridge on return.
    F/O G. Spiers RCAF and crew, flying Halifax VII NP-695 coded QO-K, failed to return from this operation.

    F/O N. Mara from 433 Squadron had the stbd inner u/s on return. They landed safely at Woodbridge on 3 engines.
    F/O S. McKellar had the stbd outer u/s outbound. They bombed they target and returned safely on 3 engines.
    F/O W. Simpson and crew, flying Halifax III MZ-417 coded BM-Q, were attacked by an unidentified enemy aircraft. It exploded in mid air after many strikes. It was claimed destroyed.
