    January 15/16, 1943

    Twelve Halifaxes from 408 and 419 Squadrons were joined by 24 Wellingtons from 420, 424, 425, 426 and 427 Squadrons  on an operation to Lorient. The crews were over the target  from between 12,000 and 17,000 feet releasing 57,000 lbs of high explosives and 75,000 lbs of incendiaries. According to reports, bombing was accurate and serious damage was caused.

    Six crews from 408 Squadron departed base at between 17:08 and 17:13, they were over the target at between 20:02 and 20:19, returning to base at between 22:55 and 23:29.

    Six crews from 419 Squadron departed base at between 17:04 and 17:18, they were over the target at between 19:50 and 20:15, returning to base at between 22:54 and 23:35. 

    F/O C. Porter and crew flying Halifax II  DT-616 coded VR-K  returned early at 21:35 due to the port outer being u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.

    Four crews from 420 Squadron departed base at between 17:00 and 17:08, they were over the target at between 19:50 and 20:10, returning at between 21:50 and 22:35.

    F/Sgt C. Lundeen and crew flying Wellington III  BJ-966 coded PT-R landed at Tangmere on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/Sgt R. Taylor and crew flying Wellington III  Z-1724 coded PT-X  landed at Tangmere on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/Sgt P. Townsend and crew flying Wellington III  X-3926 coded PT-A landed at Tangmere on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/Lt R. Cook and crew flying Wellington III  BK-365 coded PT-L  landed at Tangmere on return due to bad weather at base.

    Five crews from 424 Squadron departed base at between 16:54 and 16:58, they were over the target at between 19:48 and 20:17, returning at between 21:40 and 22:40.    
                                                  
    S/Ldr W. Allison and crew  flying Wellington III  Z-1674 coded QB-G  were attacked by an FW-190 and JU-88 on return. There were some strikes seen on the FW-190, they had no damages and they landed safely at Tangmere.

    P/O C. Amies and crew flying Wellington III  X-3409 coded QB-J  landed at Tangmere on return due to poor weather at base.

    P/O L. Brown and crew flying Wellington III   X-3789 coded QB-N  landed at Tangmere on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/Lt W. Klassen and crew flying Wellington III  BK-398 coded QB-W  landed at Tangmere on return due to bad weather at base.

    Seven crews from 425 Squadron departed base at between 18:30 and 18:45, returning at between 23:16 and 23:35.

    Five crews from 426 Squadron departed base at between 17:45 and 18:40, they were over the target at between 19:52 and 20:32, returning at between 22:13 and 23:37.

    Six crews from 427 Squadron departed base at between 16:58 and 17:04, they were over the target at between 19:45 and 20:15, returning at between 21:50 and 22:47.                                                   

    Sgt W. Schmitt and crew flying Wellington III  X-3873 coded ZL-R  landed at Tangmere on return due to poor weather at base.

    Sgt E. Williams and crew flying Wellington III  BK-343 coded ZL-V landed at Tangmere on return due to poor weather at base.

    P/O C. Bennett and crew flying Wellington III  Z-1626 coded ZL-G  landed at Tangmere on return due to poor weather at base.

    Sgt G. Taylor and crew flying Wellington III  Z-1676 coded ZL-S  landed at Tangmere on return due to poor weather at base.

    W/Cdr D. Burnside and crew flying Wellington III  BK-164 coded ZL-E  landed at Tangmere due to bad weather at base.

    S/Ldr M. Williams RAF and crew, flying Wellington III  BK-364 coded ZL-K, failed to return from this operation.
