    15 Halifaxes from 405, 408, and 419 Squadrons were joined by 115 Wellingtons from 420, 424, 425, 426, 427, 428, 429, and 431 Squadrons on an attack at St.Nazaire. The crews were over the target at between 13,000 and 19,000 feet, releasing 224,000 lbs of high explosives and 228,000 lbs of incendiaries. According to reports, the port area was hit.

    Sgt W. Foley from 405 Squadron had the pilot’s escape hatch blow off over the target.
    P/O M. Satler and crew flying Halifax II DT-695 coded LQ-P were attacked by a ME-210, there was no claim or damage.

    P/O F. Cavanaugh from 408 Squadron was hit by flak, the hydraulics were damaged.

    Sgt P. Johnson fron 419 Squadron returned early was the stbd inner was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    Sgt W. Buckwell returned early as the intercom was u/s.
    Sgt G. Smallwood was coned by search lites and hit by flak. The Halifax was flipped upside down and fell 10,000 feet. While control was lost the captain ordered the crew to bail out. W/O2 R. Douglas, the bomb aimer complied and then the pilot was able to regain control and return safely to base.

    F/Sgt R. Beckett RCAF and crew, flying Halifax II  BB-283 coded VR-O, failed to return from this operation.

    F/Sgt J. Thomson from 420 Squadron returned early as the rear turret was u/s.
    Sgt L. Horahan returned early as some instruments were u/s.
    S/Ldr. D. McIntosh returned early as the port engine was u/s. They landed safely at base on one engine.
    Sgt A. Sodero landed at Pershore on return.
    P/O B. Grant landed at Tangmere on return.

    Sgt A. Harrison from 424 Squadron was attacked by a JU-88, there was no claim or damage. They landed safely at Upper Heyford due to a fuel shortage.
    F/Lt F. Taylor and crew flying Wellington X HZ-273 coded QB-G were attacked by a JU-88, some strikes were seen.
    Sgt R. Hewitt and F/O C. Hess landed at Exeter due to a fuel shortage.
    F/Sgt. L. Forbes and W/Cdr. H. Carscallen landed at Upper Heyford due to a fuel shortage.
    Sgt A. McManus landed at Leeming due to a fuel shortage.
    Sgt G. Duffield landed at Dalton due to a fuel shortage.

    P/O S. Murrell, Sgt J. Rivard, P/O J. Delisle, P/O R. Smith, Sgt E. Carvajal, P/O G. Anderson, P/O R. Lacerte, W/O2 J. Marcotte. Sgt R. Dingman, W/Cdr J. St. Pierre, Sgt J. Brousseau, F/O C. Blakeney, P/O T. Hall, and P/O T. Doucette from 425 Squadron landed at Honeybourne on return.

    Sgt B. Cox from 426 Squadron returned early as there was a navigational error.
    P/O W. Shaw and crew flying Wellington X HE431 coded OW-X were attacked twice by a JU-88, there was no claim or damage. They landed at Beaulieu due to a fuel shortage.
    F/Sgt H. Patch, P/O J. Sammet, Sgt R. Todd, and Sgt. S. Gaunt landed at Beaulieu due to fuel shortages.

    Sgt D. Rae from 427 Squadron returned early as the generators were u/s.
    Sgt R. Henry landed at Exeter due to a fuel shortage.

    Sgt D. Shears from 428 Squadron returned early as the oxygen system was u/s. They landed at Dalton.
    F/O R. Tighe saw an aircraft caught in a search light cone at 22:42 hours. It was hit and crashed in flames.
    Sgt R. Whitfield was hit by flak, not serious. They landed at Harwell on return.
    Sgt V. Sylvester and crew flying Wellington X HE-505 coded NA-X were attacked by an ME-110 at 22:50 from 15,000 feet going home. The ME-110 came in from port quarter down and opened fire at 600 yards, F/Sgt E. Smith, the rear gunner gave the corkscrew maneuver and the ME-110 was lost. There was no claim or damage. They also saw an aircraft at 22.08, coned by search light beams north of the target. It was hit and fell slowly and was seen to burst into flame upon striking the ground. They landed safely at Leeming on return.
    W/Cdr D. Smith saw an aircraft at 22.45 coned by search light beams. It was shot down in flames and crashed to the ground. This aircraft was more than likely F/Sgt Beckett RCAF from 419 Squadron.
    F/O R. Tighe, F/Lt D. Morgan, Sgt R. Parkinson, Sgt C. Pearce, and Sgt L. Chartier landed at Leeming on return.
    Sgt K. Fry, P/O R. Buckham and Sgt M. Chepil landed at Harwell on return.
    W/O1 A. Harrison landed at Dalton on return.
    Sgt K. Knapp landed at Abington on return.

    F/O B. Rawson from 429 Squadron landed at Stanton Harcourt on return.
    Sgt A. Jameson and F/Sgt R. Conroy landed at Middle Wallop on return.

    Sgt A. Smith from 431 Squadron returned early as the fuel cap was missing on the port fuel tank.
    Sgt R. Sullivan returned early as the generators were u/s. They landed safely at Exeter.
    Sgt K. Smith landed at Exeter on return.
    Sgt A. Williams, Sgt A. Bryant, Sgt J. Reynoldson and Sgt R. Barclay landed at Harwell on return.
     
    Sgt G. Wood and Sgt J. Esdale landed at Stanton Harcourt on return.
