March 9/10, 1943

    19 Halifaxes from 408 and 419 Squadrons were ordered on an attack at Munich. The crews were over the target at between 12,000 and 18,000 feet, releasing 21,000 lbs of high explosives and 45,000 lbs of incendiaries. According to reports, the attack was accurate with severe damage in the western sectors of the city.

    P/O T. Cornwall from 408 Squadron returned early as one engine was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    Sgt A. Reynolds returned early as the fuel system was u/s.
    Sgt E. Dungey landed at Boscombe Down on return. On rollout they crashed into a Boston. They crew was uninjured.

    Sgt J. Palmer from 419 Squadron returned early, as the rear turret was u/s.
    Sgt H. Tattersall returned early as the oxygen system was u/s.
    P/O W. Boyce returned early as they found out that the wireless operator, Sgt B. Chambers RAF, was not on board.

    While the Halifaxes went to Munich, 22 Wellingtons from 425, 426, and 429 Squadrons were ordered on a mining operation to the Kattegat and Heligoland. The crews were over the garden at between 600 and 1,500 feet, sowing 38@1500 lb mines.

    P/O C. Blakeney from 425 Squadron returned early as the stbd engine was u/s. They landed safely at base on one engine.

    P/O G. Baker RCAF and crew from 426 Squadron, flying Wellington III X-3284 coded OW-X, failed to return from this operation.

    Sgt E. Willey from 429 Squadron returned early, as the compasses were u/s.
    Sgt G. Kennedy returned early as they could not find the pinpoint.
    Sgt K. Holbech RAF and crew, flying Wellington BK-429 coded AL-Q, failed to return from this operation.
