    70 Halifaxes from 408, 415, 420, 425, 426, 429, and 432 squadrons were ordered to attack oil facilities at Castrop-Rauxel. The crews were over the target at between 17,000 and 19,000 feet, releasing 531,000 lbs of high explosives. According to reports, some damage was caused.

    F/O E. Wilkinson from 415 squadron was hit by flak, there was holes in the port elevator.
    F/O A. Galley was hit by flak, there were holes in the fuselage.
    F/O R. Evans was hit by flak, there was holes in the fuel tanks and tail plane.
    W/Cdr F. Ball was hit by flak, there were holes in the stbd wing and elevator.

    P/O R. Bagnell from 420 squadron was hit by flak, there were holes in the tail plane.

    P/O A. Belanger from 425 squadron was hit by flak, not serious.
    F/O J. Brassard had one engine u/s on return. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.

    F/Lt K. Powell from 429 squadron was hit by flak, not serious.
    P/O C. Andahl was hit by flak, there were holes in the stbd wing and fuselage.
    F/O R. Jones was hit by flak, there were holes in the wings and fuselage.
    P/O D. Gant landed at Grafton Underwood on return.

    F/Sgt D. Jamer from 432 squadron was hit by flak, not serious.
    P/O J. Durand was hit 3 times by flak, not serious.
