    83 Halifaxes from 408, 415, 420, 425, 426, and 432 Squadrons were ordered on an attack at Witten. The crews were over the target at between 14,000 and 16,000 feet, releasing 164,000 lbs of high explosives and 387,000 lbs of incendiaries. According to reports, the weather was clear with severe damage being caused. Here is a copy of a Captain's map showing the route and turning points for this Operation.

    F/Lt H. Bracken from 408 Squadron was hit by flak, the pilot’s perspex was holed.
    F/O G. Gross and crew, flying Halifax VII NP-807 coded EQ-E, were attacked by an ME-109, there was no claim or damage.
    F/O J. Hibbit and crew, flying Halifax VII RG-474 coded EQ-L, were attacked by an unidentified enemy aircraft, there was no claim or damage.
    W/O1 R. Herringer and crew, flying Halifax VII NP-777 coded EQ-S, were attacked by a JU-88 and an ME-109, there was no claim or damage.

    F/O V. Clark and P/O C. Ensom from 415 Squadron landed at Tholthorpe on return.
    P/O R. Pallin landed at Linton on Ouse on return.
    F/O J. McGuire RCAF and crew, flying Halifax III NP-938 coded 6U-T, had the stbd outer go u/s on return. 10 minutes later the stbd inner had to be shut down because of an oil leak. They crash landed near Epinoy.

    P/O J. Menary from 420 Squadron was hit by flak, not serious, they landed at Marston Moor on return.
    P/O E. Trudell and crew, flying Halifax III NR-138 coded PT-T, were attacked by an ME-110 and an ME-410, strikes were seen on both and were claimed damaged.
    F/O G. Keeper RCAF–POW and crew, flying Halifax III MZ-910 coded PT-Y, failed to return from this operation.

    6 crew were POWs and 1 was killed.

    S/Ldr E. St. Jean from 425 Squadron had the hydraulics go u/s on return.
    P/O L. Paquette and crew, flying Halifax III MZ-418 coded KW-C, were attacked by a JU-88, strikes were seen and it was claimed damaged. They landed at Carnaby on return.
    P/O J. Giquere RCAF and crew, flying Halifax III NP-939 coded KW-V, had the stbd inner u/s after bombing. The port outer was hit by flak and was u/s at the English Coast. They were unable to maintain height on 2 engines and crash landed at Handy Grass. F/Sgt R. Kelusky, the wireless operator, was slightly injured.
    P/O A. Temple RCAF and crew, flying Halifax III MZ-482 coded KW-G, collided with a Mosquito from 515 squadron and crashed in Belgium.

    F/O F. Alward from 426 Squadron had the port outer u/s on return. They landed safely at Manston on 3 engines.
    W/O2 J. Tuplin and crew, flying Halifax VII PN-227 coded OW-Z, were attacked by an ME-410, there was no claim or damage.

    F/O R. Martindale from 432 Squadron landed at Linton on Ouse on return.
    P/O J. Durand landed at Linton on Ouse on return due to a fuel shortage.
    F/Lt A. Clarke was hit by flak, not serious.
