May 21/22, 1943


    30 Wellingtons from 426, 428, 429, and 431 Squadrons were ordered on a mining operation to the Frisian Islands. The crews were over the target at between 700 and 5,000 feet, sowing 50@1500 lb mines. 

    W/O1 D. Thompson and Sgt J. Sheridan from 428 Squadron landed at Wyton on return. 
    F/Sgt A. Simpson RCAF and crew, flying Wellington X   HE-177 coded NA-G, crashed after an overshoot at East Moor.

      Sgt A. Grenon RCAF
      Sgt A. Howes RCAF
    All were killed except Sgt Howes, the rear gunner. 

    F/Sgt C. Magnusson RCAF and crew, flying Wellington X HE-899 coded NA-B, failed to return from this operation.

    All were lost without a trace. 

    Sgt G. Clarke,  Sgt W. Trofanenko,  P/O L. Lown, and Sgt H. Floren from 429 Squadron returned without mining as they could not find the pinpoint due to poor weather. 

    Sgt R. Buck RAF and crew from 431 Squadron, flying Wellington X  HE-200 coded SE-P, failed to return from this operation.
