    104 Halifaxes from 408, 415, 420, 425, 426, and 432 Squadrons were joined by 105 Lancasters from 419, 424, 427, 428, 429, 431, 433, and 434 Squadrons on an attack of the port area of Kiel. The crews were over the target at between 14,000 and 19,000 feet, releasing 1,921,000 lbs of high explosives. According to reports the attack was scattered with some damage.

    F/Sgt G. Roberts, F/Lt E. Heaven, S/Ldr H. Saunders, and F/Lt A. Bossenberry from 408 Squadron landed at Polebrook on return due to poor weather at base.
    F/Lt J. Baird and crew flying Halifax VII RG-473 coded EQ-H were attacked by an unidentified twin engine aircraft, there was no claim or damage. They landed at Glatton on return due to poor weather at base.
    F/O F. Reain and crew flying Halifax VII PN-225 coded EQ-J were attacked by a JU-88, there was no damage but many strikes were seen on the starboard wing and the engine was on fire. It was claimed damaged. They landed at Tarrant Rushton on return due to poor weather at base.
    F/Lt L. Godfrey, F/O R. Chapman, F/Lt F. Smith, P/O J. Edwards, F/Lt D. Tempest, F/O C. Campbell, P/O D. Tory, W/O2 J. Fitzsimmons, F/O A. Clifford, F/Lt A. Cull and F/Lt R. Hutcheon landed at Glatton on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/O A. Galley from 415 Squadron returned early as the navigation aids were u/s.
    P/O R. McClatchie returned early as the port outer was u/s. They landed safely at Langham on 3 engines.

    P/O D. Brown, F/O W. Smith, F/O G. Smith, F/Lt N. Robertson, F/O B. Nichols, S/Ldr D. Hunter,  F/O C. Widdecombe, S/Ldr G. McMurtrie, P/O J. MacNeil, F/O D. Lambroughton, F/O J. Horner, W/Cdr M. Ferguson and F/O R. Chambers landed at Wymeswold on return due to poor weather at base.
    P/O C. MacLaren RCAF and crew, flying Lancaster X KB-866 coded VR-M, failed to return from this operation.

    F/O W. Beckett, F/O J. Mould, F/O H. Mann, F/O R. Morrison, F/Lt C. Moir, F/Lt D. Sillers, F/O D. Mullin, F/Lt J. King, W/Cdr W. Norris and P/O J. Emmerson landed at Desborough on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/O J. Rivet from 425 Squadron was hit by flak, not serious. They landed at Snaith on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/Lt D. Hamilton from 426 Squadron returned early as they could not climb. They landed at Swinderby.
    P/O A. Wilkinson had the port inner u/s on return. They landed safely at North Luffenham on 3 engines.
    P/O A. Harvie, F/Lt J. Baillie and F/Lt G. Titus landed at Wigsley on return due to poor weather at base.
    P/O F. Berg, F/Sgt J. Burlak, F/O R. Moase and F/Lt G. McMonnies landed at Winthorpe on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/O S. Matheson and crew from 427 Squadron flying Lancaster I RA-539 coded ZL-O were attacked by two FW-190s, there was no damage but one FW-190 was seen to catch fire and go down in flames. They landed at Ridgewell on return due to poor weather at base.
    F/Lt E. Shaw, F/Lt W. Towne, F/O J. Jamieson, F/O G. Farnell, F/Lt R. Gould, P/O R. Pearson, F/O F. Kaye, F/Lt R. Wall and F/O W. Schmitt landed at Ridgewell on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/O D. Varden from 428 Squadron returned early as the stbd outer was u/s and the port outer was running poorly. They landed safely at Topcliffe on 3 engines.
    W/O2 R. Quinn was hit by flak, the stbd inner was u/s. They landed safely at Church Broughton on 3 engines.
    F/Lt E. Acree RCAF and crew, flying Lancaster X KB-816 coded NA-E, overshot the landing at Church Broughton and crashed.
    The crew was uninjured.

    1 crew was killed and 6 POWs after being hit by flak outbound damaging the engines and injuring the pilot. On return they were hit by flak again. With the engines quitting they ditched in the North Sea. The crew drifted in the sea for 12 days before coming ashore. F/O D. Payne and F/O G. Riley were decorated for their courage on this operation.

    W/O2 K. Weld from 429 Squadron was hit by flak, not serious.
    F/Lt D. Magee was hit by flak, there were holes in the stbd wing and the stbd inner was u/s. They landed safely at Bassingbourne on 3 engines.
    F/O A. Bainard, S/Ldr P. Douglas, F/O W. Thomas, F/Lt H. Humphries, F/O D. Faulkner and W/Cdr E. Evans landed at Bassingbourne on return due to poor weather at base.

    F/O R. Taylor and F/Lt G. Glaholt from 431 Squadron landed at Church Broughton on return due to poor weather at base.

    P/O D. McTaggart and crew flying Halifax VII NP-705 coded QO-Y were attacked by a JU-88, there was no claim or damage. They landed at Long Marston on return due to poor weather at base.
    S/Ldr W. Miller landed at Honeybourne on return due to poor weather at base.
    F/O J. Collin landed at Tarrant Rushton on return due to poor weather at base.

    W/O2 P. Hess and crew from 434 Squadron flying Lancaster X KB-885 coded WL-Q were attacked by an unidentified twin engine enemy aircraft, there was no claim or damage. They landed at Gaydon on return due to poor weather at base.
    F/Lt G. Marlow, F/Lt R. Purnell, F/O F. Hawes, F/O H. Hooper, S/Ldr J. Brown, F/Lt J. Rothenbush, F/Lt J. Kitchen, F/Lt R. Jenkins, F/O E. Yuill, S/Ldr J. Hudson, F/Lt D. Milloy, F/O H. Wild, F/O E. Dundas and P/O F. Cash landed at Gaydon on return due to poor weather at base.
     

    While most crews went to Kiel, 20 Lancasters from 424, 427, 429, and 433 Squadrons were ordered on a mining operation to Kiel Bay. The crews were over the garden at 12,000 feet, sowing 120@1500 lb mines.
