    July 24/25, 1943

    47 Halifaxes from 408, 419, 427, and 428 Squadrons were joined by 21 Wellingtons from 429 and 432 Squadrons on an attack at Hamburg. The crews were over the target at between 16,000 and 21,000 feet, releasing 94,000 lbs of high explosives and 222,000 lbs of incendiaries. This was the first time window was used. According to reports, the weather was clear over the target and severe damage was caused. 

    F/Sgt A. Grubert from 408 Squadron returned early as the port inner was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.

    All crews from 419 Squadron reported intense flak over the target.

    P/O V. Sylvester from 428 Squadron returned early as the port inner was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    Sgt R. Borrows returned early as the rear turret was u/s.
    W/O1 A. Harrison returned early as the port outer was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    P/O A. Reilander was hit by incendiaries over the target, there were holes in the wings and tail.

    Sgt S. Bruce from 429 Squadron returned early as one engine was u/s. They landed safely at base on 1 engine.

    Sgt R. Burgess from 432 Squadron returned early as the oxygen system was u/s.
