    42 Halifaxes from 408, 419, 427, and 428 Squadrons were joined by 34 Wellingtons 429, 431, and 432 Squadrons on an attack at Cologne. The crews were over the target at between 16,000 and 21,000 feet, releasing 205,000 lbs of incendiaries and 104,000 lbs of high explosives. According to reports, bombing was accurate and serious damage was caused.

    Sgt R. Burns from 408 Squadron returned early as the port inner was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    F/Lt H. Miles was hit by flak, there was a hole in the stbd wing tip.
    P/O H. Lancaster was shot at by a Halifax on return, the damage wasn’t serious.
    Sgt E. Dungey RCAF–Evd and crew, flying Halifax II JB-913 coded EQ-F, failed to return from this operation.

    F/Sgt E. Champion returned early as their Halifax would not climb.

    Sgt K. Fry from 428 Squadron landed at Skellingthorpe on return.
    2nd/Lt K. Knapp belly-landed at base on return, there were no injuries.

    S/Ldr D. French and P/O J. Lancaster from 429 Squadron returned early as their intercoms were u/s.
    Sgt G. Clark returned early as the port engine was u/s, they landed safely at base on 1 engine.
    Sgt J. Pendleton returned early as there was a fire in the fuselage. 
    Sgt F. Hingston was attacked by an enemy aircraft, there was no claim or damage.
    F/Lt A. Brinton RAF and crew, flying Wellington X LN-296 code AL-P, failed to return from this operation.

    Sgt F. Long returned early as the navigation aids were u/s.
    Sgt H. Apperley RAF and crew, flying Wellington X LN-284 coded SE-Q, failed to return from this operation.

    4 crew were killed and 1 POW after being shot down by a Nightfighter.

    S/Ldr W. McKay from 432 Squadron was hit by flak, not serious. They landed at Driffield on return.
    F/Sgt J. Gingles was damaged by gunfire from a Lancaster. The front turret, stbd wing, engine, and propeller were damaged. The cockpit and fuselage were also damaged. They landed safely at Gravesend on return.
    Sgt R. Burgess RAF and crew, flying Wellington X HF-493 coded QO-C, were hit by flak. The wings and fuel tanks were damaged. Sgt A. Dabous RCAF, the bomb aimer, bailed out over enemy territory. On return to England they were short of fuel, and with low cloud and fog the crew bailed safely and the Wellington crashed near Gravesend.

    P/O J. Baker RCAF and crew, flying Wellington X HE-630 coded QO-B, were directed to West Malling on return due to poor weather.

    With fog and low fuel, they crashed into a house near Gravesend, killing the pilot, bomb aimer, and wireless operator. 

    W/O2 P. Chambers RCAF and crew, flying Wellington X HZ-481 coded QO-W, failed to return from this operation.
