June 26/27, 1943


    13 Wellingtons from 429, 431 and 432 Squadrons were ordered on a mining operation to Lorient and Brest. The crews were over the garden at between 700 and 1,300 feet, sowing 14@1500 lb mines.

    Sgt S. Bruce from 429 Squadron returned early as they could not find the pinpoint.

    All crews from 431 Squadron landed at Harwell on return.

    S/Ldr W. McKay from 432 Squadron returned early, as the controls were not working.
    Sgt R. Burgess returned early as they were late getting away.
    W/O1 W. Horn RCAF and crew, flying Wellington X HF-568 coded QO-Y, failed to return from this operation.

    All were lost without a trace.
