June 4/5, 1944


    55 Halifaxes from 427, 429, 431, and 434 squadron were joined by 14 Llancasters from 419 squadron on an attack against the coastal guns at Calais. This attack took place between 6,000 and 8,000 feet with 550,000 lbs. of high explosives being directed at the guns. The weather was clear and the guns were well hit. 

    F/O M. Marshall from 427 squadron was hit by flak, holes were put in the stbd stabilizer and rear turret. There were no injuries and the crew landed safely at base.

    F/O M. Kyte from 431 squadron was attacked by an ME-109. No claim was made.
    F/lt M. Johnstone was hit by flak. Aircraft received damage to the port wing.

    P/O R. McCullough of 434 squadron returned early due to encountering severe icing on the way to the target.
