    June 6/7, 1944


    44 Lancasters from 408 and 419 Squadron were joined by 204 Halifaxes from 420, 424, 425, 426, 427, 428, 429, 431, 432, 433, and 434 Squadrons on attacks of road and rail centres at Coutances and Conde sur Noireau. The crews were over the targets at between 2,000 and 4,000 feet, releasing 1,976,000 lbs of high explosives. 

    F/Lt F. Rader from 408 Squadron did not bomb as the load hung up over the target. They landed safely at Enstone on return.
    F/O D. Ryan RCAF and crew, flying Lancaster II DS-768 coded EQ-J, overshot the runway at Honeybourne and their Lancaster was written off.

    None of the crew were injured.

    9 crews landed at Enstone, Marston Moor, and Honeybourne on return.

    All crews from 419 Squadron landed at Colerne on return.

    F/O S. Joplin from 420 Squadron had the stbd inner fail outbound. They bombed and landed safely at Wellesbourne Mountford on 3 engines.
    10 crews landed at Wellesbourne Mountford, Gaydon and Long Marston on return.

    P/O C. Jones from 425 Squadron had the port inner u/s on return. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    P/O C. Stark and Sgt J. Landry landed at Honeybourne on return.

    F/Sgt C. Selfe RCAF and crew from 426 Squadron flying, Halifax III LW-377 coded OW-G, was hit by falling bombs over the target.

    They struggled back to England where the crew bailed out at Slapton Sands without injury.

    F/O R. Penrose from 427 Squadron had the stbd inner go u/s outbound. They bombed and returned safely to base on 3 engines.

    P/O H. Gouthreau and F/Lt R. Anderson from 428 Squadron returned without bombing on the master bomber’s orders.
    All crews landed at Westcott on return.

    W/O2 N. Thompson from 429 Squadron returned without bombing on the master bomber’s orders.
    P/O F. Augusta landed at Wellesbourne Mountford on return.

    Sgt W. Aldred from 431 Squadron returned early as the radios and navigation aids were u/s.
    F/O M. Chisholm has the stbd inner go u/s over the target, they landed safely at base on 3 engines.

    F/O H. Morrow from 432 Squadron returned without bombing on the master bomber’s orders. They landed at Little Horwood on return.
    P/O D. Maddock crash-landed at Wing on return without any injuries to the crew.
    All other crews landed at Wing or Little Horwood on return.

    F/O T. Ellison from 433 Squadron returned without bombing on the master bomber’s orders.
    P/O J. James returned early as the port outer was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
