June 24/25, 1944

    38 Lancasters from 408, 419 and 428 squadrons were joined by 65 Halifaxes from 420, 425, 426, and 432 squadrons on an attack of a V-1 launching site at Bameries. The crews were over the target at between 11,000 and 13,000 feet, releasing 860,000 lbs of high explosives. According to reports, it was a clear night with accurate bombing.

    P/O T. Bailey from 408 squadron returned early as the port outer was u/s. They landed safely at East Moor on 3 engines.
    P/O C. Reid had the stbd outer u/s on return, they landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    P/O W. Kasper had a tire blow on takeoff and damage a flap. They bombed the target and returned safely to Carnaby.

    W/O2 J. Jean from 425 squadron had the port outer go u/s on return. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
    F/O J. Langlois and crew saw many V-1s while flying near Hastings.
     
     


    Also on this night, 6 Halifaxes from 428 squadron were ordered on a mining operation to Brest and St. Nazaire. The crews were over the garden at 12,000 feet, sowing 24@1500 lb mines.

    All crews returned safely to base.
