March 11/12, 1944

    24 Halifaxes from 419, 428, 431, and 434 squadrons were ordered on a mining operation to Lorient, Brest, St. Nazaire, and Terschelling Island. The crews were over the gardens at between 2,000 and 15,000 feet, sowing 36@1500 lb mines. 

    W/O2 J. McNary from 419 squadron landed at Exeter on return due to a fuel shortage. 

    F/O C. Ford and F/Sgt W. Gay from 428 squadron returned early as their navigation aids were u/s. 
    F/O D. Biden did not mine as the load hung up. 
    W/O2 H. Gouthreau landed at Exeter on return due to a fuel shortage. 

    F/O N. MacLeod and F/Sgt A. Tinmouth from 431 squadron returned early as their navigation aids were u/s. 

    F/Sgt K. MacDonald from 434 squadron returned early as their navigation aids were u/s. 
    F/Sgt W. Wood was attacked by a enemy aircraft over the drop zone. The Halifax was severely damaged. There were many holes throughout the aircraft, the bomb doors and hydraulics were damaged. The rudder trim cables were shot off. The mid upper gunner, wireless operator, and bomb aimer were slightly injured. They landed safely at Molesworth.
