March 6/7, 1944


    119 Halifaxes from 419, 420, 424, 425, 427, 428, 429, 431, 432, 433, and 434 squadrons were ordered on an attack of the rail yards at Trappes. The crews were over the target at between 12,000 and 17,000 feet, releasing 1,334,000 lbs of high explosives. According to reports, bombing was accurate and enormous damage was done to the rolling stock, tracks and buildings. 

    P/O J. Hamilton from 419 squadron landed at Abington on return. 
    F/Sgt G. Marjoram landed at Linton on Ouse on return. 
    P/O G. Scade and F/Lt J. Stewart landed at Harwell on return.

    F/Sgt R. McKay from 420 squadron returned early, as the compasses were u/s. 

    F/O M. Sherwood from 424 squadron returned early as the stbd outer was u/s. They landed at base on 3 engines. 
    F/O R. Bannihr and P/O R. Basson landed at Topcliffe on return due to a fuel shortage. 

    F/Sgt N. Powers from 428 squadron landed at Skipton on Swale on return. 
    F/O N. Brown landed at Linton on Ouse on return. 
    F/Sgt K. Hawthorn landed at market Harborough on return. 
    F/Sgt J. Judiesch landed at Upper Heyford on return. 
    W/O2 T. Magill, F/Lt G. Sutherland, F/Sgt K. Carter, and F/Lt F. Watkins landed at Harwell on return. 

    P/O E. Johnson from 431 squadron landed at Chipping Warden on return due to poor weather. 
    F/Sgt F. Skeaff landed at Middleton St. George on return due to poor weather. 
    F/Lt C. Bull, W/Cdr W. Newson, P/O J. King, F/Sgt M. McMillan, and P/O R. Hamby landed at Wing on return due to poor weather at base. 

    F/Sgt G. Millar from 432 squadron landed at Wing on return. 

    S/Ldr J. McNeill from 433 squadron returned early as the port outer was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines. 
    F/Sgt W. Russell landed at Leeming on return.
