May 21/22, 1944

    23 Halifaxes from 428 and 433 Squadrons were ordered on a mining operation to Heligoland and the Frisian Islands. The crews were over the gardens at 15,000 feet, sowing 88@1000 lb mines.

    F/Sgt H. Smith from 428 squadron was hit by flak, there was a holes through the windscreen and the pilot was cut on the forehead. He was not seriously injured and they returned safely to base.
    W/O2 W. Forsberg had the port outer go u/s on return. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.

    P/O R. Reinelt from 433 squadron returned early.
